What We Call “Chair flying”

Departure:
Ground ops, then climb out at 250 kias to 5000 with the runway heading. Expecting vectors to the south. Call departure and get cleared to PT 2. Switch my altimeter to 29.92 and get cleared to FL 270. Turn in the general direction to PT 2, to a heading of 159.

Cruise:
Level off at FL 270 and do the cruise checklist. Set the speed to 450 TRUE. Then take down the initial level off time to start the initial cruise fix. Use the peninsula and the city of Dover to get a multi range bearing fix. 2 minute prior call, mark on top call, and then the wings level call. Slow to 420 true is I hit PT 2 on time. Utilize the coast of France for a auto fix.

Zoom out and look for the weather which should be over PT 3 and request a 20 degree weather divert towards Paris. Plug in the navaids for the timing control point. After weather diverting request direct to the timing control point and set speed depending on ETA. After turn control point plug in navaid and set the CRS to PT 5. Get a last single range and bearing without updating the fix.

Decent/Approach:
Grab ATIS for the Ramstein AB then start the decent checklist. Give appropriate briefs and get a fix to fix heading to the 272 radial @ 21 DME off the tacan. Descend down to 5000 at 6000 ft per minute. Report the IAF and twist the 080 CRS. Turn 125 and descend 4000 to intercept the 080 CRS. @ 10 DME start before landing checklist, slow to vREF speed. Report Final approach fix, descend to MDA 1450 and call MAP @ 1 DME. Land….
